Immuno-Oncology (Associate Director / Director)

 

About the position

The Program Lead role requires a strong scientific background in the field of immune-oncology (I/O) and/or a related biological science. Primary responsibilities will be to lead a team of biologists that define and oversee projects that deliver high quality I/O clinical candidates. The candidate will provide scientific leadership to research teams at CROs, to enable the discovery of novel therapeutics.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide scientific guidance & instruction over our expanding oncology drug discovery programs. An essential component to the position is the ability to lead multiple oncology programs and contribute to advancing early oncology drug programs in a fast-paced, team-oriented biotechnology environment. As a Program Leader, the candidate must have in-depth knowledge of tumor immunology, molecular and cellular biology relating to drug discovery, and development of cancer therapeutics, as evidenced by previous research emphasis and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Immuneering drug discovery spans the entire preclinical drug discovery spectrum, including Target Identification (TI), Target Validation (TV), Hit Identification (Hit-ID), Hit-to-Lead (HtL), Lead Optimization (LO), Preclinical DMPK, ADME-Tox, In Vivo Pharmacology, and contributing to the preclinical and CMC, where appropriate, sections of future IND applications.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute on strategies to evaluate drug activity and mechanism, and accurately record, analyze, and present data to team and company leadership
  • Develop and coordinate immune assays with CROs (heavily outsourced model) and identify technologies to address key questions and drive the drug discovery process
  • Effectively communicate progress with internal and external key stakeholders
  • Generate and document program technical reports
  • Other relevant tasks in support of company-wide activities

Job Requirements
Required Competencies for Program Leader in Discovery Oncology

  • Demonstrated ability to lead tumor molecular biology and drug discovery teams in oncology, preferentially with a focus on tumor immunology/microenvironment, advanced oncology models and pre-clinical drug development
  • Hands on experience with a wide variety of cell and molecular biology techniques and demonstrated ability to lead lab-based teams and personnel while working side-by-side with company leadership
  • Previous supervisory experience of PhD level and non-PhD-level scientists is desirable
  • Initiate, implement, plan, direct and execute scientific research
  • Independent and creative thinker; Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Maintain high level of scientific expertise through review of literature and other scientific and clinical sources
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

Education

M.S. (8-10+ years) or PhD (5-8+ years) drug discovery program experience

 

Experience

Must have broad background experience in pharma and/or biotech drug
discovery as evidenced by contributions to scientific posters, publications.
Preference to candidates who have demonstrated history of interdisciplinary
team engagement with diverse drug discovery expertise (e.g., chemists, bioinformaticians, biologists, translational scientists, toxicologists and clinicians). Expertise/focus in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or other relevant discipline(s) with a specialization in oncology, immune oncology, drug development and/or tumor microenvironment.

Computational Biology / Statistical Genetics / Genomics

 

About the position

Experience analyzing high-dimensional data (gene expression/RNA-seq, SNPs/SNVs, WES, WGS, and proteomic data), using computational methods to facilitate the development of new medicines and understand clinical cohorts. Experience with variant calling and interpretation. Ability to apply learning methods and regression analyses of genetic / genomic data to continuous and categorical responses or phenotypes.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret data such as gene expression, SNPs, NGS (RNA-Seq, WES/WGS), proteomic data, and clinical metadata from both a biological and clinical perspective
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative analysis methods and algorithms that solve complex computational research problems
  • Present scientific material (written and oral) to diverse audiences

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Computational Biology, Biostatistics or a related field (i.e., Biology, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Statistics) or 5+ years of work experience at a leading computational biology focused institution
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as contribute to larger initiatives
  • Effective English communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Proficient in at least one of R, Python, MATLAB, or a similar language

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral experience in a top lab using computational biology and/or biostatistics
  • Broad and deep understanding of genetics, proteomics, and/or genomics as documented by a strong publication record in high-impact journals
  • Strong experience in scientific communication;  excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing novel algorithms to address complex scientific problems
  • Proficient in R
  • Hands-on experience with samtools, IGV, GATK, bwa or similar, RSEM or similar
  • Experience applying machine learning approaches to analysis of heterogeneous clinical and pre-clinical data

 

Expanding the impact of genomic data on drug development

 

About the position

We are seeking computational biologists excited about applying their expertise, passion, and creativity to improve the lives of people with serious diseases. Working in close collaboration with your Immuneering colleagues and with world-class R&D teams at leading pharmaceutical companies, you will join an intense and highly iterative effort to facilitate the development of new medicines for diseases including neurodegeneration and cancer. You will see projects through from start to finish: experimental design, analysis of raw data, identifying biological mechanisms, refining and testing hypotheses, and publishing and presenting the findings. Candidates should have PhD or postdoctoral experience elucidating biological insight from high-throughput molecular-level data and/or applying statistical and machine learning methodologies to such data. Experience with oncology, CNS or neurodegenerative disease, or with the drug development process, is a plus.
